Volunteers’ Week 2024. Help celebrate our amazing team!
It’s Volunteers’ Week! Time to celebrate and thank the dedicated team who give their time to help the people of Epsom & Ewell. Jane Sheils meets new and long-serving members of Team CAEE and introduces Volunteers’ Week, 3-9 June 2024.
We couldn’t provide our services without the diverse team of people who generously donate time and talents to local people in Epsom & Ewell. In the past year they helped nearly 3000 clients find their own way forward from difficulties of all kinds.
At Citizens Advice we have many kinds of volunteering roles. I have been meeting four volunteer colleagues who are all making a vital contribution or training to do so. They spoke frankly about the opportunities and challenges they of their charity work. Read my reports below.
If you’re thinking about volunteering, we would love to hear from you: Find out more.
You don’t need any special background or experience but would be able to commit at least one day each week. And the benefits are far reaching: new life skills, keeping the brain active, boosting your CV; the list goes on. You might be interested to train as an adviser like Ellie, or assessor like Fiona. Or use your skills in admin support, communications, fundraising or research and policy campaigns.
When I asked four of our volunteers why they joined CAEE and what they got out of working with us, this is what they told me:
You can read more about the variety of roles available in my Volunteering For Ten blogs.
Amazing contributions
Volunteers’ Week celebrates amazing contributions to communities everywhere. Starting on the first Monday in June every year, it’s a chance to recognise and thank an incredible voluntary workforce for all they do to support people in difficulty and society as a whole.
What happens during Volunteers’ Week?
Lots of celebration events in-person and online this year culminating in The Big Help Out. Fronted by Stephen Fry and Gaby Roslin, this national activity runs Friday 7 to Sunday 9 June and aims to get more people thinking about volunteering and contacting local groups in need of new volunteers.
Volunteers’ Week began in 1984 and everyone is pleased it’s still strong at 40 and still getting a great response from people who want to help
