Treasurer

Are you passionate about changing things for the better in your local community?

We are looking for a new Treasurer for Citizens Advice Epsom & Ewell, a well-established charity providing free, confidential and impartial advice on issues affecting people’s day-to-day lives. We are a local organisation supported by local volunteers to help local people in need. We’re looking for confident, friendly and well organised people to join our Trustee Board.

The role

The treasurer will be a trustee working with the rest of the Board, all of whom are volunteers who use their skills, knowledge and experience to help guide and govern our service, shape strategy and give direction to the organisation. You would be expected to attend quarterly meetings of the Board, lead the quarterly Finance Committee and work with the Finance & Administration Manager. As a trustee you’d work collaboratively with the chair and help support other specialisms, eg fundraising, working with staff and volunteers on grant bids and relevant projects.

What are we looking for?

An accounting qualification or demonstrable financial skills and/or experience relevant to the role of treasurer. We welcome people of all ages, backgrounds and experience who want to help local people in need. We value fresh ideas, alternative perspectives and different life experience. Strong candidates will have a background in or good understanding of the charity, private or public sectors, coupled with general management skills such as strategic planning, business development and financial management.

Our regular meetings are held in Epsom during the daytime although some are hybrid meetings which facilitate attendance online. Your time commitment will be 5 – 8 hours per month.

What difference will you make?

Your contribution will help to ensure that the charity is run and governed effectively doing what it was set up to do, complying with the law and using funds responsibly to provide advice and information to our clients. You’ll also make a real difference and help our society become a fairer, more equal place.

What’s in it for you?

You’ll make a positive impact locally, ensuring the local Citizens Advice is sustainable and meets the needs of the community.  You’ll build on your governance, leadership and strategy skills and increase your

employability. Being a trustee is an important role but you won’t be alone in carrying it out; you’ll join a friendly and professional team comprising a small number of paid staff and more than 50 volunteers who give up their time to help their local community.
