Volunteer Trainee Adviser: Ellie, the opportunities and challenges
Volunteer Trainee Adviser, the opportunities and challenges. In Volunteers’ Week Jane Sheils meets….CAEE Trainee Adviser Ellie.
Ellie is a very new recruit, she joined us in early March. She comes in one day a week and is training to be an Adviser.
Ellie’s background is finance. She worked in Treasury Management in Social Housing and for three years as a school business manager. With this experience she brings many relevant skills to her volunteering.
When she left a Housing Association job, Ellie looked for an opportunity where she could help others but also be challenged. The adviser role at Citizens Advice fitted the bill perfectly adding value and supporting people in multiple difficulties, often not of their own making.
Ellie says the variety of work and meeting people from all walks of life is what she enjoys. She’s looking forward to completing her training, to feeling she’s helping and really making a difference.
On the other hand, Ellie also says she will find the variety challenging. She accepts she may never know everything but will always know where to get the answers. And she sees that as the key to helping clients get their best outcome whatever their situation and troubles.
If you want to know more about volunteering at CAEE these posts cover what you will gain, questions you may have and more experiences from others.
Jane Sheils is Volunteer Publicity Adviser at Citizens Advice Epsom & Ewell.
